A Helping Hand
By day he's always on the run
So much to do, so much to get done
Shakin' hands and makin' deals
Goin' in circles with all the big wheels
By night he's where the bright lights shine
Spendin' his money, spendin' all of his time
But if one in need should come his way
He just looks the other way
A helping hand
He's never one to give
A helping hand
Has his own life to live
Brotherhood and charity
Are not part of his plan
He can't see there's a need for
A helping hand
The homeless of the city street
Lie trampled underneath his feet
Their lot in life is not his own
They've got their street he's got his home
He seems to think he matters more
Than the weak and the sick and the old and the poor
He proclaims with self-important pride
That the strongest should alone survive
A helping hand
He's never one to give
A helping hand
Has his own life to live
Brotherhood and charity
Are not part of his plan
He can't see there's a need for
A helping hand
(bridge) It's not such a long fall from the top
But once you hit rock bottom the falling doesn't stop
The years went by, the tables turned
And both ends of his candle burned
Now he's weak and he's sick, he's old and he's poor
He's not feeling so proud any more
By day he walks the streets alone
By night a park bench is his home
He finds himself without a friend
He wishes that someone would lend
A helping hand
He was never one to give
A helping hand
Had his own life to live
Brotherhood and charity
Were not part of his plan
Now even he can see the need for
A helping hand

All I Want For Christmas (Is To Wrap My Arms Around You)
It's that time of year again
Make a list and check it twice
Try to find the perfect gift
No matter what the price
But you don't have to spend a dime on me
To make my dreams come true
'Cause all I want for Christmas
Is to wrap my arms around you
So forget the fancy paper, the bows and ribbons too
'Cause all I want for Christmas is to wrap my arms around you
The world seems like such a crazy place
Not like it used to be
These past few months have made me stop and think
What means the most to me
Like being with the ones I love
And livin' a life that's true
And all these things mean so much more
When I wrap my arms around you
So forget the fancy paper, the bows and ribbons too
'Cause all I want for Christmas is to wrap my arms around you
Sitting by the fireside a snowy Christmas eve
I see the magic in your eyes, the only gift I'll ever need
So forget the fancy paper, the bows and ribbons too
'Cause all I want for Christmas is to wrap my arms around you

All The Money In The World
She is not a material girl
Unless it’s satin, silk or lace
Money is not everything to her
But it’s way ahead of second place
And though she left me long ago
I still can hear her say
It would take all the money in the world
To steal my heart away
So if you got dinero
She’s gonna get her share-o
If you’ve got ze franc
She’ll take your ass to the bank
For the British pound
She’ll always come around
You can bet the whole farm ‘cause it’s true
If you got some yen I’m sure she’ll do you again for you
All the money in the world
All the money in the world
I can still hear her say
All the money in the world
All the money in the world
All it takes is all the money in the world
To steal her heart away
If you’ve got the dough, Joe
She knows where to go, Joe
But she don’t stay in no HoJo
It’s first class or she no go, Joe
If you’ve got the earnings
She’s got the yearnings
If you’re in the black she’s not blue
For a suitcase of rubles
She’ll forgo her scruples for you
All the money in the world
All the money in the world
I can still hear her say
All the money in the world
All the money in the world
All it takes is all the money in the world
To steal her heart away
You got a pocket a’ pesos
Don’t even need to say so
It only takes her one glance
At that bulge in your pants
For the almighty dollar
She’ll scream and holler
As long as you’re loaded you’ll do
If you’ve got the moolah
She’s got some oohlah for you
All the money in the world
All the money in the world
I can still hear her say
All the money in the world

Angel In His Pocket
He set out to play his music
Be the best that he could be
Sometimes he would pass the hat
Sometimes he’d play for free
From town to town they traveled
On a long and lonesome ride
And the one thing he could count on
Was his Angel by his side
An Angel in his pocket
And a horseshoe in his hand
A guitar strapped across his back
And a rusty Chevy van
They found themselves in Boston
Flat broke and hungry, too
He had thoughts of giving up
But Angel pulled him through
In desperate desperation
She sat down and wrote a song
And soon in every place he played
The people sang along
An Angel in his pocket
And a horseshoe in his hand
A guitar strapped across his back
And a rusty Chevy van
His big break came in L.A.
Caught a rocket to the top
Now that he was on his way
He knew he’d never stop
He threw away his horseshoe
And he sold his Chevy van
Got rid of his old guitar
And let go of Angel’s hand
But once he climbed the mountain
He found it much too far to fall
He realized a bit too late
It wasn’t worth it after all
Now it’s a bent and broken halo
That he wears upon his head
His restless dreams are haunted
By the words he left unsaid
And every morning after’s
Just like every night before
If he could just go back again
If he could have it all once more
An Angel in his pocket
And a horseshoe in his hand
A guitar strapped across his back
And a rusty Chevy van

Another Love Like Her
Love
That’s what she gave to me
Her sweet love
I was too blind to see
That I’ll never find another love like her
Lonely days
And lonely nights they never end
And I wonder
If she’d take me back again
No I’ll never find another love like her
Why did I ever cross the line
Why did I have to lie
Why can’t I say I’m sorry
I don’t want to see her cry
But tell me how
Can I ever find the words
And tell me how
Can I ever ease the hurt
No I’ll never find another love like her
Why did I ever cross the line
Why did I have to lie
Why can’t I say I’m sorry
I don’t want to see her cry
Wish I knew
A way to travel back in time
I could repair
All the wrong and make her mine
No I’ll never find another love like her
No I’ll never find another love like her

Close Your Eyes (Sweet Dreams, Good Night)
A single light bulb shinin' naked in the night
Shadows on the wall dancin' crazy in the light
A broken-down dresser, a broken-down bed
Three empty wine bottles and an achin' head
A picture of a lady hangin' on the wall
With a broken frame from a nasty fall
Stumble into bed, turn out the light
Close your eyes, sweet dreams, good night
You wander downtown to pass another day
People look at you, then they turn and look away
’Cause it's as plain as the pain that's written on your face
You're in a different time, you're in a different place
You're with the lady in the picture hangin' on the wall
With a broken frame from a nasty fall
Stumble into bed, turn out the light
Close your eyes, sweet dreams, good night
You remember a time when you had so much more
You try to forget but that's what memories are for
As the setting sun closes another day
You've never in your life ever felt so far away
From the lady in the picture hangin' on the wall
With a broken frame from a nasty fall
Stumble into bed, turn out the light
Close your eyes, sweet dreams, good night

Crack Of Dawn
Turn out the lights, pull the shades
Katy bar the door
Set the traps, get the blades
Somebody find the .44
Everybody's gonna party down
Until the thrill is gone
There'll be no getting in or out
Until the crack of dawn
The devil's rain is pourin' down
Upon this town tonight
How many lives will it wash away
Before the morning light
She's dyin' slow for a nickel blow
It's her only reason to hang on
She'll sell her soul and she'll pay the toll
Before the crack of dawn
The crack of dawn
Crack of dawn
A good time's just a place in line
Waiting for that magic blast
Katy's livin' for the moment
But the moment never seems to last
Her baby's cryin' in the corner
The cops are at the door
No one knows what's goin' on
And Katy's on the floor
It's the crack of dawn
Crack of dawn

Goodbye By Any Other Word
You don’t have to say a single word
I can see it in your eyes
You’re going to chase those dreams you have
Search for your blue skies
The time has come for you to go
I knew that when you came
But goodbye by any other word
Would still hurt the same
So remember all those summer nights
When we counted every star
And the lessons love has given us
Have made us who we are
When you leave you’ll take a part of me
I knew that when you came
But goodbye by any other word
Would still hurt the same
It’s funny how the best laid plans
Can somehow go astray
But a distant dream inside your head
Is calling you away
You were born to travel with the wind
I knew that when you came
But goodbye by any other word
Would still hurt the same
So remember all those summer nights
When we counted every star

Hello Columbus
I’ve been on the road for fifteen years
And more than a million miles
Singin’ songs and makin’ memories
Through the laughter, tears and smiles
I’ve been all across the country
But no matter where I go
My favorite place to play
Is Columbus, Ohio
And I say--
Hello Columbus
It’s good to be back home
Hello Columbus
The best town I’ve ever known
Where you never meet a stranger
And you never feel alone
My heart is in the heart of it all
Columbus, Ohio
I could move to Nashville
Might be a country music star
But sometimes that ol’ pot of gold
Can be right there where you are
I wouldn’t trade a million dollars
For my hometown and my friends
This is where my journey starts
This is where my journey ends
And I say--
Hello Columbus
It’s good to be back home
Hello Columbus
The best town I’ve ever known
Where you never meet a stranger
And you never feel alone
My heart is in the heart of it all
Columbus, Ohio
From the Buckeyes to the Clippers
The Horizon and The Chill
Thunderbolts and Glory
I just can't get my fill
Thurber House and COSI
Jack Hanna and the zoo
The arts abound, the new downtown

How The West Was Lost
You came across the ocean
In the fall of ’92
Though you were met with open arms
That wasn’t good enough for you
Taking what you wanted
And doing as you pleased
You robbed us of our innocence
And then you drove us to our knees
Hell-bent to build your country
No matter what the cost
You turned your guns on our native sons
And that’s how the west was lost
A trail of broken treaties…
...a trail of tears
Take a look in your history book
'Cause it was not as it appears
And in your hunger
And in your thirst
You forced our stand to save our land
You took our women and our children first
Hell-bent to build your country
No matter what the cost
You turned your guns on our native sons
And that’s how the west was lost
One day a proud young warrior
Will awaken from his sleep
And with the wind he’ll ride again
For his scars still run too deep
In the shadow of the eagle
In the spirit of the night
With truth his only weapon
This time he’ll win the fight
Hell-bent to build your country
No matter what the cost

I Can't Get Over You (Like You Got Over Me)
I stay at home alone most every night
’Cause goin’ out without you don’t feel right
While you may have your freedom
I have just a memory
’Cause I can’t get over you
Like you got over me
I can’t get over you
There’s nothing I can do
But you got over me
The day you set me free
Your memory still lingers
It just won’t let me be
’Cause I can’t get over you
Like you got over me
It hurts to think I never had your love
Was I a toy that you grew tired of
If it was just a game
The loser’s plain to see
’Cause I can’t get over you
Like you got over me
I can’t get over you
There’s nothing I can do
But you got over me

I Feel A Heartache Comin' On
So long ago you came to me softly
A woman I could build my dreams upon
But now you say you’ve found another
I think I feel a heartache comin’ on
I think I feel a heartache comin’ on
And every turn just turns out to be wrong
You’re slipping through my fingers
I know you’ll soon be gone
I think I feel a heartache comin’ on
What’s that you say, I’ll soon forget you?
I’ve always heard it’s easier said than done
He’ll have your love and I’ll have your memory
I think I feel a heartache comin’ on
I think I feel a heartache comin’ on
And every turn just turns out to be wrong
You’re slipping through my fingers
I know you’ll soon be gone

I Just Can't Stay
Goodbye shameless lady
I’ve finally seen the light
It’s time for me
To be movin’ on
I’m not blameless lady
But I know wrong from right
And I know you’ll find another
Once I’m gone
’Cause to you the word love means
Just a frequent change of scene
And in the game of love the losers have to pay
But I’ve opened up my eyes
And now I realize
You’ll never change and so I just can’t stay
You’re a teasing lady
With captivating charms
You know how to make a man feel good
You’re a pleasing lady
But I’ve got to leave your arms
Because I know that you would use me if you could
’Cause to you the word love means
Just a frequent change of scene
And in the game of love the losers have to pay
But I’ve opened up my eyes
And now I realize
You’ll never change and so I just can’t stay
Your love’s tainted lady
It’s not like it appears
And it’s time that I evened up the score
Don’t cry painted lady
They’re only wasted tears
And you’ve cried and lied
A hundred times before
’Cause to you the word love means
Just a frequent change of scene
And in the game of love the losers have to pay
But I’ve opened up my eyes
And now I realize
You’ll never change and so I just can’t stay
Even though I love you so

I Want You Tonight
Some people they wait all their lives
Some people they never think twice
Is there somebody waiting for you
Then don’t think twice whatever you do
'Cause I am here and so are you
And we both know what this is leading to
I want you tonight
Are you crossing on over the line
You know there is no better time
Could you be too afraid of the fall
Go all the way or don’t go at all
'Cause I am here and so are you
And we both know what this is leading to
I want you tonight
You’re starting to lose all control
Don’t hold back it’s time to let go
I’ll take you where you’ve never been
Then we’ll go back again and again
'Cause I am here and so are you
And we both know what this is leading to
I want you tonight

I'm Comin' Back Again
Well I’ve heard it said a time or two
That only the strong survive
Well I guess that I am livin’ proof
’Cause here I am still alive
But don’t try to understand a man
Who calls the blues his friend
And darlin’ you can spread the news
’Cause I’m comin’ back again
I’m comin’ back again
And this time I’m gonna win
I’ve been down, and I’ve been out
Gonna put it all together again
I’ve seen my share of misery
More than my share of rain
But darlin’ you can spread the news
’Cause I’m comin’ back again
There’s a story for the tellin’
In every line upon my face
But don’t be fooled by my worn out shoes
’Cause I’m still in the race
Now I’m not one to change my tune
Never been more than what I am
And darlin’ you can spread the news
’Cause I’m comin’ back again
I’m comin’ back again
And this time I’m gonna win
I’ve been down, and I’ve been out
Gonna put it all together again
I’ve seen my share of misery

I'm Just Gettin' Older
Her eyes can’t hide the hunger
That remains unsatisfied
No amount of make-up
Can cover the tears she’s cried
I feel the fire a’fadin’
Every time I hold her
I’m not gettin’ better
I’m just gettin’ older
The years they come and the years they go
I used to run fast now I’m walkin’ slow
And this old world seems to be a little bit colder
Well I used to welcome each new day
But now I wish it was yesterday
I’m not gettin’ better
I’m just gettin’ older
I lost my job after twenty years
To make way for some college kid
Once my life was under control
Now it’s just an endless skid
Maybe I should just fade away
Kinda like a tired old soldier
I’m not gettin’ better
I’m just gettin’ older
The years they come and the years they go
I used to run fast now I’m walkin’ slow

Is There Something I Don't Know
Is there something I don’t know
If there is please tell me so
I’ve gotta know
Is there something I don’t know
Lately you’ve been acting kinda funny
And you’re never there when I call home each day
And at night when we make love
You’re a million miles away
I’ve gotta know
Is there something I don’t know
Is there something I don’t know
If there is please tell me so
I can’t go on without knowing where I stand
Is there something I don’t know
Don’t you want our love to grow
Or does your lovin’ belong to another man
That little dress you’re wearin’ now is so revealing
And I’m not used to the new style of your hair
Has our love gone up in smoke
Is it gone beyond repair
I’ve gotta know
Is there something I don’t know
Is there something I don’t know

Memories Of You
I wake up, I go to bed
And in between I get half out of my head
Empty days filled with haze
Just tryin' to do whatever it takes
To forget
These memories of you
These memories of you
They torture me every day
Memories of you
Have taken their toll
Memories of you
It's been such a price to pay
Got nothing to lose
Just these memories of you
I can't remember old friends' faces and names
'Cause everything has just faded away
Except for the one thing that stays in my head
The one thing I remember's
The one thing I want to forget
These memories of you
These memories of you
They torture me every day
Memories of you
Have taken their toll
Memories of you
It's been such a price to pay
Got nothing to lose
Just these memories of you
Sometimes you fly
Sometimes you fall
Sometimes it doesn't matter after all
We spread our wings
Played your game
And then I came crashing down in flames
All that's left are these memories of you
These memories of you
They torture me every day

Have taken their toll

Open For Business
Lipstick and leather are the tools of her trade
She stands on a corner for the fools on parade
Each one undresses her with lusting eyes
Some come to look and some come to buy
And she’s open for business on a Saturday night
Money changes hands under the neon light
For whatever they have, she’ll do whatever they need
’cause she’s got a habit and a baby to feed
Don’t want to get busted, it’s hard to make bail
She can’t make no money while she’s locked up in jail
Nobody’s fool she knows the chances she takes
Lyin’ to her pimp about the tips that she makes
And she’s open for business on a Saturday night
Money changes hands under the neon light
For whatever they have, she’ll do whatever they need
’cause she’s got a habit and a baby to feed
Turnin’ tricks and bad trips in a deadly game
Each night is another step closer to the flame
In a world of confusion it’s all perfectly clear
To the sad-eyed stranger that she sees in her mirror
But she’s open for business on a another Saturday night
Money changes hands under the neon light
For whatever they have, she’ll do whatever they need
’cause she’s got a habit and a baby to feed
A man with a gun and a Cadillac
Her friend gets in and she never comes back
Life on the streets can be so ugly and mean
Already seen it all and she is only sixteen
But she’s open for business on a Saturday night
Money changes hands under the neon light
For whatever they have, she’ll do whatever they need
’cause she’s got a habit and a baby to feed

Queen Of Diamonds
My baby is the queen of diamonds
And softball is her game
And even if it weren’t on the back of her shirt
Everybody’d know her name
She likes to get down and dirty
She likes to play a little rough
Other women get a little jealous
’Cause all the guys really like her stuff
And I love it when my baby goes down
I love it when my baby goes down
I love it when my baby goes down, downtown
The lady likes a doubleheader
’Specially when she’s got her heat
And when she’s at the plate make no mistake
She likes a bat that’s got some meat
We love to argue with the umpire
And disagree with the calls
I kiss her on all the strikes
She kisses me on the balls
And I love it when my baby goes down
I love it when my baby goes down
I love it when my baby goes down, downtown
We’re a double-play combination
A lineshot inside the foul pole
She likes to be next on deck
I prefer to be in the hole
She’s so cute in her spikes and stockings
She knows what the equipment’s for
She likes me to drive her home
And I like it when I score
And I love it when my baby goes down

Rendini
The sign outside of town said Rendini's comin' soon
And how or when it got there, no one really knew
Then one dark and stormy night with evil pourin' down
Rendini's Travelin' Magic Show appeared outside of town
Soon everyone in town had assembled on the square
They looked away and trembled from Rendini's evil stare
But with an icy voice he said, "Friends, don't be alarmed.
My intent is simply to amuse, not to cause you harm."
Then he asked for a volunteer but no one raised a hand
So he chose the local banker, a cold and heartless man
He said I'll make you disappear, but the banker only sneered
But when Rendini waved his wand the banker disappeared
Next Rendini chose the mayor, a man who knew no right
Once again he waved his wand and the mayor disappeared from sight
An adultress and a drunkard were the next ones to go on
And with just a wave of Rendini's wand they too were quickly gone
And so it went throughout the night, first one and then the next
All the evil in the town vanished by his hex
Rendini seemed to grow every time he waved his wand
As he fed upon the evil that the town had spawned
At last the show came to an end and he laid down his wand
And those remaining looked around to find half the town was gone
It was then that they realized why Rendini came
He may call himself Rendini but the devil is his name
So if a sign appears outside your town mysteriously
The evil warning on it should be taken seriously
For Rendini travels near and far
Putting on his shows
And what happens to his volunteers
Satan only knows

Rock Of Ages
I still remember 1969
We were marchin' in the street
We were crossin' over the line
Tried to build a new world
Some people tried to tear the old one down
But now all these years later
This old world's still spinnin' 'round and 'round
And I keep--
Rollin' on
Rollin' with the rock of ages
The hunger still burns
The fire still rages
Lost a few friends along the way
But they're in every single song I play
And I keep--
Rollin' on
Rollin' with the rock of ages
I still remember the last words she said to me
I was comin' off a tour
Back in 1983
She said, "Me or your music, you know that it's time you chose"
Well I grabbed my guitar
I hit the road
And I kept--
Rollin' on
Rollin' with the rock of ages
The hunger still burns
The fire still rages
Lost a few friends along the way
But they're in every single song I play
And I'll keep--
Rollin' on
Rollin' with the rock of ages
I still remember the day I wrote this song
They said the chorus was too short
They said the verse was too long
They didn't like the ending, they didn't like the start
But I make my own music
I didn't change a single part
I just kept--
Rollin' on
Rollin' with the rock of ages
The hunger still burns
The fire still rages
Lost some good friends along the way
But they're in every single song I play

Runnin' Wild And Free
Runnin’ Wild And Free
I’ve been up and down and all around
My head in the clouds and my feet on the ground
But don’t you worry baby, don’t you worry ’bout me
‘Cause I’ve survived everything that comes and goes
I still know which way that old north wind blows
And after all these years I’m runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Well those High Street days are still special to me
When Zachariah’s was the place to be
For people like you and people like me
But I’m not one to live in the past
Learned long ago most things never last
And after all these years I’m runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Sometimes I stop and wonder why
I saw so many of my close friends die
When I know it could and sometimes it should have been me
But life has dealt me a pretty good hand
I’m still makin’ music with a damn good band
And after all these years I’m runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free

My head in the clouds and my feet on the ground
But don’t you worry baby, don’t you worry ’bout me
‘Cause I’ve survived everything that comes and goes
I still know which way that old north wind blows
And after all these years I’m runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Well those High Street days are still special to me
When Zachariah’s was the place to be
For people like you and people like me
But I’m not one to live in the past
Learned long ago most things never last
And after all these years I’m runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Sometimes I stop and wonder why
I saw so many of my close friends die
When I know it could and sometimes it should have been me
But life has dealt me a pretty good hand
I’m still makin’ music with a damn good band
And after all these years I’m runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free
Runnin’ wild and free

She's Drivin' Me Crazy
I call her name
In the middle of the night
Put my arms around my pillow
Like I’m holding her tight
There’s something about her I can’t resist
I need her so
But she don’t know I exist
Oh-oh-oh
She’s drivin’ me crazy
Hey-hey-hey
I want her to be my lady
I-I-I I’m goin’ out of my mind
Oh-oh-oh
She’s drivin’ me crazy
When I close my eyes
I kiss her lips
I trace her body
With my fingertips
Though it’s only a dream
I can’t explain
Tonight again
I’ll be goin’ insane
Oh-oh-oh
She’s drivin’ me crazy
Hey-hey-hey
I want her to be my lady
I-I-I I’m goin’ out of my mind
Oh-oh-oh
She’s drivin’ me crazy
I saw her walkin’ down the street today
Like every time before I just turned and walked away
Oh-oh-oh
She’s drivin’ me crazy
Hey-hey-hey
I want her to be my lady

She's Gone Kind Of A Day
The morning sun shines brightly
The start of a brand new day
But that ol’ sun don’t shine as bright
Since you went away
The loneliness inside me
The tears that fall like rain
Since the day you went away
Everything’s the same
And it’s a low down, broken down, pourin’ down
Kind of a morning
It’s a done wrong, so long, she’s gone
Kind of a day
It’s a low down, broken down, pourin’ down
Kind of a morning
It’s a done wrong, so long, she’s gone
Kind of a day
I miss your tender body
I long for your embrace
The memory of your love is something
Time cannot erase
At night I dream that morning
Will find you here with me
But the sun comes up and the rain pours down
And through my tears I see
It’s a low down, broken down, pourin’ down
Kind of a morning
It’s a done wrong, so long, she’s gone

Some Fools
Some fools won’t let her
Break their heart more than a time or two
Some fools know better
And they walk away before the game is through
But some fools keep trying
Although they know headin’ for a fall
And some fools never lose the game of love
The fools that never fall in love at all
All the time I knew that you would walk away
Just leave without a single word
But I loved you any way
Still I’d give a thousand tears for one more moment by your side
You see I’d rather be a fool who lost
Than a fool who never tried
Some fools won’t let her
Break their heart more than a time or two

Someone To Cheat On
He needs someone to cheat on
To listen to his lies
He needs someone to cheat on
To tell his alibis
He just can’t seem to break away
It’s easier for him this way
So he keeps hangin’ on
’Cause he needs someone to cheat on
He plays his little games
And he thinks that I don’t know
But I know each and every thing he’s done
But I know he’ll never leave me
Whatever comes his way
’Cause he needs someone to keep his secrets from
He needs someone to cheat on
To listen to his lies
He needs someone to cheat on
To tell his alibis
He just can’t seem to break away
It’s easier for him this way
So he keeps hangin’ on
’Cause he needs someone to cheat on
Sometimes I ask myself why I keep holdin’ on
Maybe I’d be better off alone
But I know I really need him
In my own special way
’Cause I have got some secrets of my own
I need someone to cheat on
To listen to my lies
I need someone to cheat on
To tell my alibis
I just can’t seem to break away

Steady As She Goes
My daddy was a captain of a ship upon the sea
And from time to time he’d share some words of wisdom with me
He said life is like the ocean and there’s one thing you should know
When storms move in it’s best to take it steady as she goes
Steady as she goes
When the waves come crashin’ down son
And that old cold north wind blows
Take it steady as she goes
The best course that you can take is
Steady as she goes
I gave away my heart the day she came into my life
My lover and my lady and someday soon my wife
The old man said don’t hurry if it’s true love it will grow
Where fools rush in it’s best to take it steady as she goes
Steady as she goes
When the waves come crashin’ down son
And that old cold north wind blows
Take it steady as she goes
The best bet that you can make is
Steady as she goes
We settled down outside of town to raise a family
Every night when I came home she’d be waiting there for me
By as time went by and by it all began to change
What once seemed so familiar now just seemed very strange
I watch her as she packs her bags and turns and walks away
And somewhere deep inside I hear what daddy used to say
But now my hands are shakin’ and this time I don’t know
‘Cause when your heart is breakin’ it’s hard to take it
Steady as she goes
There she goes steady as she goes
When your life comes crashin’ down and she leaves you all alone
Hard to take it steady as she goes
When your heart is breakin’ it’s hard to take it
Steady as she goes

The Blues Ain't No News Around Here
Lord it’s gettin’ time to get away
Turn my back don’t come back no way
Someday that’s what I’ll do someday
But not today
’Cause you see I got nothin’ to fear
And it’s all in how it appears
Let me make one thing abundantly clear
The blues ain’t no news around here
The blues is all the news that I’ve heard lately
Don’t need no one to tell me how things are
’Cause you see I got nothin’ to fear
And it’s all in how it appears
Let me make one thing abundantly clear
The blues ain’t no news around here
Some people say it looks like rain
Ah, but to me it’s all the same
I’m far beyond what you call pain
Don’t need no one to blame
’Cause you see I got nothin’ to fear
And it’s all in how it appears
Let me make one thing abundantly clear
The blues ain’t no news around here
The blues is all the news that I’ve heard lately

The Home Of Billy D.
Crazy Billy’s what they call him
And the sidewalk is his home
And the curb is where he often lays his head
He talks about the world
To all the strangers passin’ by
But no one gives a damn what Billy says
His clothes have seen their better days
His shoes are old and worn
There’s an empty shirt sleeve
Where his arm should be
But in a voice still sweet and clear
For everyone to hear
He sings about the home of Billy D.
God Bless America
Oh how I love this land
There’s equal opportunity for woman, child and man
It’s the land of plenty
Where everyone is free
God Bless America
The home of Billy D.
A grocery cart contains the things
That he holds near and dear
A picture of a lady he once knew
A Bible and a small flag
And a lock of Mama’s hair
And the silver star he won outside Pleiku
You see Billy was a hero in the war in Vietnam
He didn’t run when it came his turn to go
Then one night in a firefight he nearly gave his life
To save a young Marine he didn’t know
God Bless America
Oh how I love this land
There’s equal opportunity for woman, child and man
It’s the land of plenty
Where everyone is free
God Bless America
The home of Billy D.
Now Billy he can’t find a job
He has no skills they’re lookin’ for
He’s too proud to ask for welfare
And the V.A. slams the door
He spends most of his time these days
Thinkin’ ‘bout the war
Billy can you tell me
What were you fighting for?
God Bless America
Oh how I love this land
There’s equal opportunity for woman, child and man

Too Close To The Line
Every day it seems that someone starts another war
I shake my head and wonder what it is they’re fighting for
Am I the only one who thinks we’re runnin’ out of time
For too long we’ve been too close to the line
Now I suppose that there are those who will never see the light
And some will sell more guns to anyone who wants to fight
But let’s pray an oil tanker never hits another mine
Why can’t they see we’re too close to the line
Is there a finger on the button somewhere in the world tonight
Will the missiles fly by morning
Will we die without a fight
Will the children of tomorrow live to see another day
If there’s a road to peace
Will we ever find the way
Am I the only one who thinks we’re running out of time
For too long we’ve been too close to the line
Vietnam is ancient history to the young men of today
For those of us a little older
The scar’s too deep to go away
Kids watch Rambo or Top Gun
And dream of going off to war
Make them listen when we tell them
We’ve been through it all before
Is there a finger on the button somewhere in the world tonight
Will the missiles fly by morning

Under The City
A tall cool lady walkin’ down the street alone
A shadow in the night is following her back home
Sinister eyes watchin’ every move she makes
The dirty sidewalk echoes every step she takes
It isn’t easy when you’re out here in the streets
It’s no place for the lonely
It’s no place for the weak
It isn’t easy when you’re out here on your own
You could be here today
And tomorrow you could be gone
Under the city beats a heart of stone
There is no pity if you find yourself all alone
Under the city beats a heart of stone
And there is no pity if you find yourself all alone
Down on the corner a package is changing hands
A quick decision a sudden change of plans
His closest friend reaches for his .44
Guess one more dealer won’t be dealin’ any more
It isn’t easy when you’re out here in the streets
It’s no place for the lonely

Waltzin' Right Out Of My Life
My lady loves to go to the dances
The music is three-quarter time
I know she’s dreamin’ of night-time romances
But I’m not the man on her mind
I’m up here playin’ this honky-tonk fiddle
And I see that look in her eyes
I’m makin’ the music, she’s out there dancin’
And waltzin’ right out of my life
I’m makin’ the music, she’s out there dancin’
And waltzin’ right out of my life
I’m not real sure how this whole thing started
Maybe she’s just playing games
But should she leave me alone broken-hearted
Then I’d be the one who’s to blame
I’m making the music she’s falling in love to
And I can see all of the signs
I’m playin’ the fiddle while she’s out there dancin’
And waltzin’ right out of my life
I’m makin’ the music, she’s out there dancin’
And waltzin’ right out of my life
The evening wears on and she’s holding him closer
She seems to be floating on air
And I wonder when the last song is over
Will I find her still waiting there
I’m making the music she’s falling in love to
And I can see all of the signs

We Can't Go On Like This Forever
Tell me why we’re trying to be lovers
Before it seemed we never had to try
Both of us are spending time with others
But neither of us wants to say good-bye
You know we can’t go on like this forever
Why must we keep tryin’ to hold on
You know we can’t go on like this forever
But we still try although the feeling’s gone
Our love has seemed to run out of emotions
And we don’t even know the reason why
Now we’re only goin’ through the motions
But neither of us wants to say good-bye
You know we can’t go on like this forever
Why must we keep tryin’ to hold on
You know we can’t go on like this forever

You know we can’t go on like this forever
But we still try although the feeling’s gone
Our love has seemed to run out of emotions
And we don’t even know the reason why
Now we’re only goin’ through the motions
But neither of us wants to say good-bye
You know we can’t go on like this forever
Why must we keep tryin’ to hold on
You know we can’t go on like this forever
But we still try although the feeling’s gone
But we still try although the feeling’s gone

When I Sing Of You
Night after night, people come to hear me play and sing
There’s not a song that I don’t know, I can do most anything
I watch them watchin’ me as they are havin’ their good times
But if they think they know me, they better read between the lines
I play a taxi song that’s a little long
But you know I never drove a cab
I sing of Bert in his dirty shirt
But that’s another job I never had
I tell of places where I’ve never been
And many things I’ll never do
But when I sing a sad love song
That’s when I sing of you
I may drink a bit too much when the words hit close to home
How can it be in a crowded room I feel so all alone
Every night I bare my soul for the whole damn world to see
And everybody goes away with a little piece of me
I play a taxi song that’s a little long
But you know I never drove a cab
I sing of Bert in his dirty shirt
But that’s another job I never had
I tell of places where I’ve never been
And many things I’ll never do
But when I sing a sad love song
That’s when I sing of you
Sometimes in the smoky light I think I see you standing there
But when the song is over I can’t find you anywhere
So I pick up my guitar and hide behind my microphone
And once again I sing the only song I call my own
I play a taxi song that’s a little long
But you know I never drove a cab
I sing of Bert in his dirty shirt
But that’s another job I never had
I tell of places where I’ve never been
And many things I’ll never do
But when I sing a sad love song
That’s when I sing of you
When I sing a sad love song
That’s when I sing of you

10:42
It’s 10:42 and I still love you
10:42 and I still love you
Don’t have a thing at all
Just the clock upon the wall
10:42 and I still love you
10:43 and I still love you
10:43 and I still love you
As the hours slip away
As I live from day to day
10:43 and I still love you
10:44 and I still love you
10:44 and I still love you
Don’t have a thing at all
Just the clock upon the wall
10:44 and I still love you
(fade)
10:45 and I still love you
10:45 and I still love you
As the hours slip away
As I live from day to day
